Police in Tucson are investigating a deadly shooting outside a local bar as a potential hate crime after the suspect was found carrying a list of similar establishments. Two men died at the scene while the armed suspect later succumbed to gunshot wounds at a hospital, marking another violent incident authorities warn strikes at community safety.

What Happened Outside the Bar

Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, were shot in the parking lot of Venture-N shortly after midnight Monday. Both victims died at the scene. The suspect, Ousman Ceesay, 44, confronted the two men before opening fire, according to Tucson Police Department investigators. Ceesay also sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, though authorities have not released details about how he was injured.

Police discovered Ceesay carried a note listing multiple businesses associated with the community. Chief of Police Monica Prieto stated that bias-based crimes have no place in the community and promised investigators would thoroughly examine all evidence. The department increased police presence around similar businesses in the region despite stating no active threat remains.

Community Response and Safety Concerns

Flowers, candles, and photographs accumulated outside the bar by Tuesday as community members mourned the loss. Multiple organizations, including Tucson Queerstory and Southern Arizona Senior Pride, planned a candlelight vigil for Wednesday night. Mary O’Donoghue, executive director of Southern Arizona Senior Pride, said the shooting devastated community members and triggered traumatic memories for older residents who lived through decades of discrimination and violence.

O’Donoghue noted some community members had relocated to Tucson from Colorado Springs, where a 2022 nightclub shooting killed five people, or from Florida, site of the 2016 Pulse nightclub attack that left 49 dead. Tucson Mayor Regina Romero called the shooting a direct attack on the community and another senseless act of gun violence.

Investigation Continues

The Tucson Police Department released limited information about the shooting and did not confirm whether Ceesay knew the victims. Investigators await medical examiner reports to establish full circumstances surrounding the incident. Public Information Officer James Horton said the department needs additional details to confirm the exact nature of Ceesay’s injuries. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the complete sequence of events that led to three deaths in the parking lot.
