Investigation Intensifies With New Search
The Tuesday morning raid marks the second major FBI action in this case. Federal authorities previously searched Swalwell’s Washington residence in August and confiscated his electronic devices while he traveled through San Francisco International Airport. The former California congressman, who served 13 years in the House before leaving office in April, faces allegations from at least five women, including a former staff member, who have accused him of sexual misconduct or rape. Swalwell was not arrested or detained during either operation.
Chinese Spy Connection Revealed
The White House declassified documents Monday through its new Government Transparency Task Force, exposing details about Swalwell’s relationship with Christine Fang, known as Fang Fang, who maintained suspected connections to Chinese intelligence services. According to the newly released FBI records, Swalwell admitted to agents that he engaged in physical relations with Fang on multiple occasions, with their final encounter occurring in March 2015. Federal investigators interviewed the former lawmaker twice regarding this relationship, first in May 2015 and again in March 2016.
Fang allegedly worked for China’s Ministry of State Security, and intelligence officials identified her parents as known Chinese intelligence officers. These revelations raise serious questions about potential national security breaches, particularly given Swalwell’s position on the House Intelligence Committee during his tenure in Congress. The timing of his relationship with the suspected operative and his access to classified information presents concerning implications for American security interests.
Political Career Ends in Disgrace
Swalwell withdrew from the California gubernatorial race and resigned from Congress after facing threats of expulsion from the House. In his resignation statement, he claimed he would fight what he called false allegations while acknowledging unspecified mistakes.
