ALERT: School Shooting Stopped – 3 ARRESTED

Authorities in Canton, Georgia arrested three individuals, including two minors, after uncovering a plot to attack Cherokee High School. The FBI alerted local law enforcement on October 19 after discovering threatening social media posts, leading to swift action that potentially prevented a tragedy.

Swift Investigation Leads to Arrests

The Canton Police Department launched its investigation immediately after receiving the FBI alert. Within 24 hours, officers identified and arrested the first suspect on October 20. The minor, whose identity remains protected by law, previously attended Cherokee High School and faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and disrupting school operations. Police seized firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices during their investigation.

Two additional suspects were arrested on October 23. A 17-year-old from Metter, Georgia, located more than 200 miles from Canton, and Michael Brandon Terry, 21, of Chatsworth, California, both face conspiracy to commit murder charges. The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department took Terry into custody, and he awaits transport to Georgia. Authorities have not yet disclosed how the three suspects connected or planned their alleged attack.

Law Enforcement Response and Community Safety

Canton Police Chief Marty Ferrell emphasized the department’s commitment to student safety. “The safety of our students and school staff is a top priority, and we take every threat seriously,” Ferrell stated. Authorities confirmed no ongoing threat exists to Cherokee High School or other district schools. The police department urged parents to educate their children about reporting threats immediately.

Cherokee County School District Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis addressed families in a video statement on October 27. “I come to you tonight not only as the superintendent, but also as a mom, and the mere thought of a school threat, let alone hearing of an alleged conspiracy to carry one out, is honestly devastating,” Davis said. She expressed confidence in the district’s safety measures and security protocols at Cherokee High School.

Growing Concern Over School Threats

This arrest follows a similar case in Southern California, where police detained two 15-year-old girls earlier this month for plotting an attack against their high school. Those suspects had compiled target lists and school maps but had not obtained weapons. Authorities indicated revenge motivated their planning. These incidents highlight the critical role social media monitoring and FBI collaboration play in preventing potential violence. The Canton case demonstrates how quick coordination between federal and local agencies can stop threats before they materialize into actual harm.
