Trump DOJ GOES TO WAR With DC Bar Over TARGETING TRUMP LAWYERS

The Department of Justice filed a federal lawsuit against the DC Bar, accusing the organization of weaponizing professional discipline proceedings to punish current and former Trump administration attorneys for their political views and legal advice.

Federal Challenge to Bar Authority

Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward filed the 25-page complaint Wednesday in federal court, alleging the DC Office of Disciplinary Counsel and the Board on Professional Responsibility have engaged in partisan attacks against executive branch officials. The lawsuit specifically defends Jeffrey Clark, former Assistant Attorney General, who faces disbarment proceedings for legal advice he provided to President Trump following the 2020 election. The DOJ demands the court nullify fault findings against Clark, issue an injunction blocking the disciplinary board, and order payment of federal legal fees.

Woodward stated the lawsuit fulfills President Trump’s promise to end legal process weaponization. The complaint argues that allowing state bar authorities to investigate and discipline federal officials for internal executive branch deliberations violates constitutional separation of powers. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche declared the DC Bar has long functioned as a partisan arm of leftist causes. The legal action aims to protect federal attorneys who provide candid advice to their superiors without fear of politically motivated retaliation.

The Jeffrey Clark Case

Clark served as Assistant Attorney General in 2020 and advised President Trump on investigating potential election fraud. His recommendations included state-level fraud investigations detailed in a December 2020 letter never intended for public release. The DC Bar initiated disbarment proceedings based on this confidential legal counsel. Three former attorneys general, including Bill Barr, filed a brief warning that punishing Clark would establish dangerous precedent threatening attorney-client confidentiality and candid legal advice within government.

Pattern of Political Targeting

The DOJ complaint names DC Bar officials Hamilton Fox and Jack Metzler, citing dozens of ideological social media posts demonstrating bias. Metzler reportedly declared it unethical to engage with people questioning vaccine mandates or birthright citizenship, both issues the Trump administration has addressed. The Bar also targeted Ed Martin, former interim DC US Attorney now overseeing pardons, merely for sending Georgetown Law School a letter questioning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. The lawsuit argues these actions represent systematic political discrimination against conservative attorneys and Trump administration officials exercising their constitutional duties.
