United States Coast Guard crews discovered the teenager Monday morning gripping the capsized 18-foot skiff approximately four miles east of St. Lawrence Island. The survivor displayed severe symptoms of hypothermia when rescuers arrived. Alaska State Troopers had notified the Coast Guard Sunday evening after the vessel failed to return at its expected 3 a.m. arrival time, but dangerous weather conditions and poor visibility prevented any rescue attempts until daylight Monday.
