A high-ranking Virginia Democratic Party operative who served as finance chairman and attended the 2024 Democratic National Convention received a 10-year federal prison sentence after an FBI child exploitation sting exposed his possession of child sexual abuse material and attempts to abuse what he believed was a 9-year-old boy.

The FBI Investigation and Arrest

Federal authorities arrested Randon Sprinkle, 31, of Richmond following a May 2025 undercover operation conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, Sprinkle contacted an undercover agent posing as a father on the dating application Jack’d. During their communications, Sprinkle transmitted a video showing adults sexually abusing a minor and expressed interest in traveling to Washington, D.C., to abuse the fictitious child.

When FBI agents executed a search warrant at his residence, they discovered dozens of files depicting sexual abuse of toddlers and infants. U.S. District Judge Roderick C. Young handed down the decade-long sentence Thursday, concluding the federal investigation that began nearly 18 months earlier.

Political Connections and Campaign Work

Sprinkle held multiple prominent positions within Virginia Democratic circles. Beyond his role as finance chairman for the Democratic Party of Virginia, he served as treasurer for the Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats and worked as an elected delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention. His professional consulting work included serving as political director for Rep. Jennifer McClellan’s 2021 gubernatorial campaign. He previously worked as her legislative aide during her tenure as a state senator.

Campaign finance records from the Virginia Public Access Project show Sprinkle worked as an associate for Richmond-based Reflex Strategy Group and Alexander Strategies LLC. He donated thousands of dollars to recent statewide campaigns of Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi. Following his arrest, Spanberger’s transition team issued a statement thanking the FBI for their investigative work. Her campaign donated the full $1,000 of his prior contributions to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Democratic Organizations Respond

The Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats issued a statement through their executive board after Sprinkle’s December 2025 indictment, confirming they immediately terminated all organizational ties. The board described the alleged conduct as reprehensible, unforgivable, and fundamentally misaligned with their values, stating it violated basic standards of humanity and decency. Spanberger, a former federal law enforcement officer who previously arrested child predators, called for swift prosecution and incarceration for the sickening crimes against children. The Democratic Party of Virginia had not responded to requests for comment at publication time.
